Villa Sea Paradise Curacao

Holiday home during COVID-19

Holiday home during COVID-19

Holiday home during COVID-19 – Villa Sea Paradise Curaçao is ready for rent!

Renting a holiday home during COVID-19 period is a safer way to spend your vacation with your family compared to booking of a hotel. In your holiday home you will stay together as a family that is much safer for you on vacation.

There are quite a few advantages to having a holiday in a holiday home during COVID-19 than in a hotel.

Why is Holiday home during COVID-19 better?
You and your family are on vacation in one location for 7 days or more without the interaction with other guests of the same hotel accommodation. That makes you feel more secure because the virus transfer is kept to a minimum. You have the entire holiday home with swimming pool, beach, sea and garden at your own disposal (Villa Sea Paradise Curacao).

Why book Villa Sea Paradise Curacao?
Apart from being ready as holiday home during COVID-19, at Villa Sea Paradise Curacao you also have the advantage that the villa on curacao is on the coastal strip and that there is a strong Northeast trade wind blowing gently. As a result, the aerosols with the relevant Corona virus (if any) cannot remain in the air for a long time. The humidity in Curaçao is also high and with the warm weather the Corona virus does not have much chance of surviving outdoors.

Besides these arguments check the reviews from our guests if you are not convinced yet.

Hygiene measures in Curacao
Of course, it is always important to observe the hygiene measures within the holiday home during COVID-19 as when you go out for an activity. With your family on vacation you must be extra cautious. In Curaçao, the Corona measures are just like in the Netherlands and elsewhere RIVM. Such as washing hands with soap for 20 seconds, sneezing / coughing in your elbow, no shaking hands, using handkerchief paper once and immediately throwing it away, using face mask when too many people present and of course keep your distance. The social distancing on Curaçao is 2 meters (7 feet) compared to the Netherlands (6 feet).

Measures taken within the holiday home during COVID-19

The vitamins that can boost your immune system are vitamin D3, vitamin C, Zinc and Quercetin see (Zelfzorgcovid19.nl) Always contact your doctor to see if you really need vitamins.

When will Curacao reopen?
As of July 1, Curaçao will reopen international traffic for the Netherlands, and possibly also for Belgium and Germany. These countries show a clear decline in corona contamination.
Tourists who come from these countries do have to have a:
1) health screening form,
2) travel insurance
3) proof that a PCR test was carried out in the country of origin or if not willing to submit to a test on arrival. The latter has yet to be crystallize.
If a tourist arrives containing a corona Covid-19 infection, it is good to realize that all medical costs are borne by that tourist.

The borders will also be opened on June 12 for Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius and for Aruba and St. Maarten June 15.
For countries like Canada, America, South America and St. Domingo, the borders will remain closed for the time being. Until further information of the Government of Curacao.

Curacao Holiday House Vacation or Hotel Vacation

Curacao Holiday House Vacation

Curacao Holiday house vacation  or Hotel vacation?

Before you start planning your holiday to Curacao it is important to make an inventory of what type of Holidaymaker you are and what do you expect from an accommodation: Are you in for a Curacao hotel vacation or a Curacao Holiday house vacation?

Which type of Holiday?

Do you like a holiday where you have everything arranged for you or prefer going on a holiday to arrange everything yourself?

Are you a vacationer who loves privacy with a private swimming pool, private garden, lots of space around you and a spacious kitchen with appliances, not having to share anything with others? Are you someone who doesn’t like too many people around you, with all that crowd and noise. Or just the opposite you prefer to dwell among people. Get more among the locals and really get to know the island on own (See or top 10 recommendations).

Do you want to get your own groceries and prepare your own food and breakfast and occasionally let a private chef cook for you (need a Private Chef ?).

Served at beck and call or do it yourself

Or are you a vacationer who wants to have their holiday rooms full air conditioned, served at beck and call, tidy rooms every day with clean bath towels and beach towels. No need to cook and get groceries. In short, not having to do much and think much. Restaurants preferably in the same building and have a breakfast buffet every morning.

If you want to arrange a lot yourself and if the hustle and bustle of a hotel is too much for you, then a Curacao holiday house is more appropriate. Do you really want to be spoiled then a hotel is the best choice for you. Your budget also plays an important role here. It is just a matter of what is important to you. Where do you feel more at home? After all, you go on holiday to enjoy, have fun and get to know new places and people.

Here are a few characteristics of an hotel versus a holiday vacation home.

Curacao Hotel Vacation

A hotel can be very convenient as we have read above but that convenience comes with limited freedom of movement and a locked-in feeling. In a holiday vacation house you are immediately outside in the open air. Enjoying the nature, the peace, the sea, the view and the sounds of the birds. In our holiday vacation rental you can taste the salt of the sea right away, you can fish, swim, snorkel and scuba dive. You do everything at your own pace and in a familiar environment.

Curacao: Our holiday vacation house

Our holiday vacation house has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It is suitable for 8 people. It is a detached ocean front house with direct access to the sea. You also have a large oval-shaped infinity swimming pool with jacuzzi in your holiday vacation house. A spacious kitchen and a large sitting room with a 180 degree panoramic sea view. The holiday house is equipped with a washing machine and dryer. You also have air conditioning and television in all bedrooms. The voltage in the vacation home is 220 Volts, just like in Europe. You can drink water from the tap and you can pay in stores with Euros or Dollars. There are 2 parking places in front of the door. It is a vacation house decorated in the Caribbean style. Celebrating Christmas in Curacao

Celebrating Christmas in Curacao

Celebrating Christmas in Curacao is really something special. It is celebrating Christmas on a tropical island with 30 degrees Celsius  (86°F) outside temperature.

Santa in Curacao at 86F
Celebrating Christmas in Curacao- VillaSeaParadisecuracao.com

If you come from America or Europe where it is cold and you are used to Santa riding his sleigh in snow and Rudolf leading, your first Christmas in Curaçao will be a very unique experience.

How we celebrated Christmas back then
Let me tell you how we celebrated Christmas with our family of 11 children in Curaçao. That is representative for how our family, friends, acquaintances, also my husband, his family and our neighborhood celebrated and still celebrate Christmas

Celebrating Christmas at our home in Curaçao with 11 children: preparation starts in October. My mother bought pieces of fabric to have dresses made for us. We had a taylor in the street who made clothes for our family. You have to be early because the taylor got very busy with many assignments during the Christmas period. In addition to new dresses, we also got new shoes,  new underwear and the older girls got a hat for the Church services. Back then you went to mass at Christmas with a hat on or a veil. Boys of course also got new clothes and shoes. Everyone is put in the new outfit for Christmas.

Aguinaldo groups
During that period between October to December, the rehearsals of the “aguinaldos groups” have already started for the performances during the Christmas season. These are singing groups consisting of ladies who sing Christmas songs (usually in Spanish) and gentlemen who play the instruments. Certain dance steps are performed with the songs. The aquinaldo groups find their origin in Venezuela, but here on Curacao it has become a tradition during the Christmas period. The aguinaldo groups perform everywhere with their Christmas songs and give the months of November and December a festive Christmas feeling.

House repainted
My father went every year to “Kooyman” a hardware store to buy paint because the house had to be repainted every year. The oldest children in the family all helped with repainting the house. As children, we looked forward to preparing for Christmas Day. There was a huge solidarity and we lived towards it, because we all know that we soon will be celebrating, eating, drinking beverages as much as you want.

Christmas tree
The last week of November the Christmas tree is purchased and the balloons and decorations are brought down from the attic. Those pine trees are imported to Curaçao and kept in the cooling. You have to be early to get the best pine trees. If you are too late, chances are that you will get a pine tree with a lot of bare spots and nobody wants that.

The tree is decorated with balloons, lights, angel hair and even artificial snow in spray cans are used to spray “snow” on the trees.

A Christmas tree is nowadays also set up on the top of Christoffelberg our highest elevation of 372m. From the 16th of December until the 6 of January it can be seen also by night when the lights are lid.

Cleansing & decorations
The house receives a thorough cleansing. The floor is waxed and polished. The special Christmas curtains and the Christmas decorations are hung up. Christmas decorations and Christmas lights in and around the house are done in many neighborhoods on Curacao.

Willemstad
In Willemstad you will see them in parks, near large buildings and important junctions. Houses compete in contests with each

other

which is the best decorated house. Sometimes prizes are awarded for the most beautifully decorated house. Christmas is a celebration of light, music, drinks and food.

Food & beverages
People on Curacao usually start preparing the food beginning of December. At home in Curaçao we made everything ourselves: Ajaca, sult (pig’s ear in “pica” /hot pepper vinagraite), “Pekele” brine (salmon in “pica” /hot pepper vinagraite), “pia di ham” (Ham leg), “pan de jamon”(bread filled with salty ham), “poche crema” (alcoholic beverage from eggs). You will have these amuses to eat in between and to offer friends and neighbors to acquaintances, family members who come to visit.

The main course in our home usually consists of: tortoise, rabbit, goat meat, turkey or stuffed chicken.

But also a special soup we call “Sopi di mondongo” which is a soup made from diced tripe slow-cooked with vegetable, bell peppers, onions, carrots, cabbage, celery, tomatoes, cilantro (coriander), garlic and root vegetables.

All of these delicious food is prepared very festively with plums, raisins, olives and capers. Sometimes wine or liquor are added to the food giving it an exquisite taste. This is usually the typical Christmas meal.

Dinner evening
You can also book a dinner at a restaurant, go to a dinner show or pay a private chef to cook for you. You do have to book this quite early in advance. Families often organize a Christmas dinner. Together they share the costs. Then the 24 December evening it is served and eaten together after the Christmas mass.

Planning and booking your Christmas holiday with us is easy, you can arrange it all online. Look at our website: https://villaseaparadisecuracao.com under extra service for more information.

Mass on Christmas day
The mass on Christmas Day is very important. Usually 4 church services are organized. There is a mass in the evening on 24 December and 3 church services on 25 December: in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening.

Events
There are many events on Curacao during the Christmas period. There is the Santa run on December 21, which is fun to watch.

Christmas markets are organized throughout December. There are some well-known Christmas markets:

  • Christmas market Jan Thiel,
  • Christmas market Pietermaai Distrikt,
  • Christmas market Chobolobo,
  • Christmas market Landhuis Ascencion and
  • Christmas market Skalo Village.

At the Christmas markets music is played, people are dancing, food is sold and of course you can buy nice Christmas gifts and items.

Of course you can keep chilling in your holiday home and let the activities pass you by and hire your private Chef for a nice meal in the privacy of your holiday home. Enjoy a delicious meal at the beach with your feet in the sand and the sun burning on your back.

In the neighborhood

Around the villa you can hike to the saltpan, a lagoon that could be open to let seawater in with the tide and then the salt water evaporates to leave a deposit of salt. This was a big business for the island back then when salt was worth more than gold.

There is also a fortress near the Caracas bay called Fortress Beekenburg built in 1703. It was from there that the English lead by Commodore Murray tried to overtake the island but was pushed back into the sea from the adjacent hill called Kabrietenberg. There our national hero Pedro Luis Brion gained his fame as a strategic captain and later became admiral in the Venezuelan independence struggle against Spain under leadership of Simon Bolivar. As a millionaire Pedro Luis Brion donated all his fortune for that cause.

Next to the fortress there is an abandoned quarantine house, where sick people were nourished before allowed into the community

Close by there is also the sunken Tugboat a favorite place for divers and snorkelers with lots of corals and sea fishes. There is also a beach there called the Governors bay.

Christmas and New Years Eve are the two top happenings on Curaçao.

Lots of people are changing their dreaming of “white” Christmas into a “sunny” Christmas! They join us on Curacao in saying “Happy New Year” in a sunny weather on Curacao!

We have plenty of Christmas markets and Christmas dinners, which are organized, in many hotels. Also the New Year celebrations are something special on Curacao. Most people get together around the floating bridge to see the Fireworks and to count down together and say Happy New Year! They bring their snacks and champagne along and enjoy the public fireworks from 23:00 till after midnight,

Willemstad and the floating bridge are then beautifully decorated for Christmas and New Year. Whole neighborhoods on the island participate together in the competition to bring their home area into the best Christmas atmosphere possible using decorative lights. Boca Gentil attracts every year several famous soccer players and artists to spend their Christmas and New Year at the resort. In Boca Gentil Resort they celebrate New Year’s Eve twice on that same evening! Champagne is raised at the midnight Dutch time (6 hours ahead of Curacao) and also at midnight during the Curacao count down. So book your Christmas holiday with us to experience these one of a kind events.

Christmas and New Year Markets and Fairs

The Christmas markets are: Christmas Fair Jan Thiel (next door), Christmas Market Country House Assencion, Christmas Fair Pietermaai, Christmas Fest Food Vegan, Hello Skalo Christmas Village.

You definitely need a car to travel around and get to these places.

Carnival

In February it depends when the Ash Wednesday falls then there is Carnival. This is a big happening on the island. It starts with the selection of the road March song on a so-called “Tumba” rhythm, which is a typical Curacao music. The text of the Tumba road March deals mostly with a political, economic situation or a romantic affair of a known person, which they made fun off. After this the Prince and the Queen of Carnival is chosen. And then everyone and everything come together during the road March through the streets of Curacao

Fuikdag

In the first week of January is the traditional “Fuikdag” or Fuik day. Fuik is a bay near the Spanish water, which can only be reached by boat. On this day a music festival on water takes place with well-known dj’s in the Fuik bay. Every one can participate as long as you have a boat to get there. People meet each other to share food, drinks and dance on their boats to the sounds of the various dj’s.

A trip to Klein Curacao stands for little Curacao, an island North East to Curacao is more than worth your visit.  Here one can snorkel and spot sea turtles. Snekbars

Curacao has a lot of snekbars, which is an acronym for snack bars. You can consider them as Curacao’s local fast food booths. They serve lemonade, beers, quick bytes such as loempia (egg roll), arepita’s (cake made of corn), johny cakes, aroz moro (spicy rice and beans) and also full dishes. You eat mostly near the booth sitting on the plastic chairs under a tree or shade. Along the road to Villa Sea Paradise that is to say, the Caracasbaai road, you will see many snekbars. Most of the time they provide music and people start to dance in a spontaneously atmosphere.

Best place to escape the winter

Curacao is ideally to escape winter. It has a gorgeous sunny climate of 25 degree Celsius, which is 77 degree Fahrenheit. It has a good flight connection with USA, Canada and Europe. The locals speak English, Dutch and Spanish in addition to their native language Papiamentu. And last but not least it has a good health facility and a modern hospital.

The Dutch colonial architecture, the Dutch Fortresses, give you a special Dutch touch to this island in the Caribbean.

Sight Seeing Willemstad

The harbor of Willemstad with a narrow entrance was the main reason why the Dutch selected Curacao as a safe haven in 1634 AD.
200 years later the Queen Emma floating bridge was built. It connected the two parts of Willemstad and made it possible for pedestrians to walk and even cars to drive from “Punda” to “Otrabanda”. Since then no longer people have to pay a boatmen to row them over from side to side or drive all around Schottegat. It was a gift from the US Embassy to the island, which still attracts tourists.

We have at the Punda side, the well-known Handelskade consisting of Old Dutch warehouses adjacent to each other along the shore of Willemstad. They provide with their façade the historical Dutch architectural sight to Willemstad.

Riffort in Otrabanda is one of the two fortresses at the narrow entrance of St. Anna bay. The area now functions as a shopping village.

The other fortress at the other side of St. Anna bay is: Fortress Amsterdam which is now a hotel. Adjacent to the fortress you will find the Governor’s Palace.

Looking further inside the harbor you will see the Queen Juliana Bridge, majestically connecting the two sides but on a higher level. This bridge plays an important role allowing cars to quickly get from one side to the other. Since then cars were not allowed any longer over the floating bridge.

As the third line of defense near the Queen Juliana Bridge the Dutch built another fortress: Fort Nassau. It now serves as a nice restaurant having the most amazing views on the island, overlooking the whole harbor and the capital.

Other places to visit in the town are: the synagogue, slave museum and the floating market.

The synagogue is one of the oldest still functioning of the western hemisphere. It reminds people of the tolerance of the Dutch people allowing Jews to profess their believes in the colonies. This was after the inquisition that took place in Spain around 1500 AD. The Jews had to flee first to Amsterdam and later to Dutch colonies.

The slave museum in Otrabanda called Kura Hulanda gives one a very good impression of the slave trade on Curacao and surrounding areas.

The floating market: these are sailboats crossing from mainland Venezuela to sell fresh vegetables, fruits and fresh fishes. The sails are used as shades and all the fruits, sails and boats make it a colorful scene to look at.

If you are in that neighborhood ask for the Old Market place called: Marche Bieu. Here they serve traditional Curacao food. In this restaurant they cook in front of you and everybody sit together at the different tables. Check the menu or ask for funchi with fish (Red snapper, Dorado) or funchi with stoba (Stew beef). Funchi is cooked corn meal, our traditional corn cake which replaces rice or potato. If you prefer rice try aroz moro (rice with kidney beans) instead of funchi.

Sight seeing more inward

More inward the island you will find:

  • Many beaches and diving spots such as: Knip bay, Cas About, Porto Marie
  • Flamingo breeding ground at Pannekoek and Jan Kok
  • Swimming with turtles at West Point bay, called Fishers bay
  • Two National Parks: Christoffel Park and Shete Boca Park

If you want to see how the roaring sea and breakers waves help creating natural bridges, caves and sea water geysers then you must visit Shete Boca park with the cave of Boca Tabla and Boca Pistol.  As a pistol it shoots sea water high up in the sky, like a geyser.
